Our day out in Wells

Hi there just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our visit to Wells yesterday inspite of the fact it was nearly ruined within half an hour of arriving there.

First I would like to say we have enjoyed many days out in Wells over the years(we being me and my Husband)and we brought my Mother for a well deserved day out yesterday as recently my Father was admitted into a nursing home suffering later stages of alzheimers, my Mother cared for him for many years until she could no longer cope. Well enough of that lets get back to yesterday.

We had parked the car but were only allowed 30 minutes so whilst we walked taking in the shops in the quaint little street we were looking for somewhere to park our car for longer. We spotted a small shorter stay car park just off the street we were walking down so my Mother and I stood in the place we intended to park the car whilst my Husband went to fetch the car, (perhaps we were wrong to do this but we certainly did not deserve what followed).

A small yellow car came up behind us with the occupants facing away from us and we had our backs to them, (at this point there were at least 2 other parking spaces available on the car park) but the car just stayed where it was, as my Husband pulled into the car park the driver of the yellow car jumped out and stood in the parking space whilst using foul language to me and my Mother using the 'f' word telling us to f*** off ... disgusting!!!, he told us the only way we would be parking in that spot was by running him over, at this point his female companion started reversing their car threateningly towards my Mother and I, we could not believe what was happening, then the female occupant from the car jumped out and started shouting at us saying they live in Wells and had a baby in the car, she actually grabbed hold of my Mother by the shoulders at which point I told her my Mother is 75 and to get her hands off.

We decided the best thing to do at this point was get into our car and go, this we did and we were quite shaken to say the least,(is a car parking space worth treating people this way .... I think not!), but inspite of the bad start we went down to your local football ground and parked there had a really lovely day, had fish and chips for lunch and walked out along the road to the beach.

We will return to Wells for further days out or even the odd weekend maybe but I hope never again to suffer an ordeal like yesterday which we so didn't need or deserve. I do empathise with the people who live in Wells regarding parking etc... I guess it must be frustrating sometimes trying to park but hardly worth the scene we were forced to endure and had we known about parking on the football field we would have parked there in the first place.

I just want to add that my Husband and I have 2 grown up Sons who would never treat anyone the way we were treated by this particular couple.

Sorry if I sound all doom and gloom but I really do feel better for getting it off my chest.

We did come to your beautiful town for a good day out and that is what we eventually had. Many thanks to anyone who may read my message.

Kind regards
